Introduction
Welcome to Book Tracker & Reading List (called Read inside the app). We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and protection of your information when you use our mobile application, available on Google Play and the App Store.
By using Read, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please do not use our application.
Information We Collect
We do not run servers that collect your data, and there is no account, sign-up, or login. Your library (book titles, authors, covers, page counts, reading status, ratings, genres, dates and the notes you write), your reading sessions (the date, duration and pages read), the quotes you save, your daily reading totals and streaks, your settings, and a local note of whether you own Read Pro or have used a rewarded unlock are stored locally on your device and are never sent to us. The only data that leaves your device is what the third-party services described below (book search, advertising and, on Android, the optional purchase) need to work. The app does not ask for access to your photos, contacts or location.
How We Use Your Information
Your reading statistics, streaks and progress are all calculated and displayed on your device. If you choose to scan a book's barcode, the app uses your camera to read the ISBN; the app does not save camera images and does not send them to us, and your device asks for camera permission first. Your library, timer and history work offline; book search, cover downloads, ads and purchases need an internet connection.
Book Search and Covers
When you search for a book by title, author or ISBN, or scan a barcode, the app sends that search text or ISBN to Open Library (openlibrary.org, operated by the Internet Archive) to find the book's details. Covers of books you added from search are downloaded from covers.openlibrary.org when they are shown and may be cached on your device. Open Library receives your IP address with these requests, as any website does. The app sends no name, account or device ID with them, and it does not send your library, notes or reading history. See openlibrary.org/policies.
Advertising
The app is supported by ads served through Google AdMob and its mediation partners Unity Ads, ironSource (Unity LevelPlay) and Liftoff (Vungle), including optional rewarded video ads that you choose to watch. To serve and measure ads, and to limit fraud, these companies collect information from your device, such as device identifiers including the advertising ID, your IP address (from which an approximate location may be derived), your interactions with the app and its ads, and diagnostic information. The app itself does not read or store this identifier.
Where your region requires consent (the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and US states with privacy laws), Google's consent form (User Messaging Platform) is shown before ads are requested. You can review or change your choice later with the Privacy choices row in the app's Profile settings, shown where your region requires it. That row is added in version 1.3.0 of the app and is not present in earlier versions.
Whether ads are personalized depends on your consent choice, your platform and your device's ad settings. On iOS, after any consent form, the app asks for App Tracking Transparency permission: your advertising identifier is used only if you allow tracking, otherwise ads are not based on tracking you across other companies' apps and websites, and you can change this at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. Google's use of this data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can reset or limit ad tracking from your device's system settings at any time.
Each company handles this data under its own privacy policy: Google, Unity Ads and ironSource, and Liftoff.
In-App Purchases
On Android, the app offers an optional one-time purchase, Read Pro, described on the in-app purchase screen. The purchase is made through Google Play Billing, and payment details are handled entirely by Google; we never see them. The app keeps only a local note on your device that you own Read Pro, and the Restore button asks Google Play for your existing purchase if you reinstall. On iOS, the app currently has no in-app purchase.
Security of Your Information
The security of your data matters to us. App data is stored locally in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot normally access, and relies on your device's own protections such as its screen lock and device encryption. The app does not add a separate encryption layer to this local data. If you use your device's backup service (such as Android backup or iCloud backup), the app's data may be included in that backup under your own account; we do not receive or control those backups. We do not transmit your library, notes or reading history to any server of ours.
Retention of Your Information
We do not retain any personal information on servers of our own. App data stays on your device until you remove it. You can delete individual books from within the app, and you can delete all of the app's data by clearing the app's storage in your device settings or by uninstalling the application; the app has no single delete-everything button. Data collected by Google AdMob and Open Library is retained according to their own privacy policies.
Children's Privacy
Our application is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13 ("Children"). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at hello@microappdigital.com so that we can take steps to remove such information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
