Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. This page explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Welcome to Nod: Sleep Sounds & Alarm. We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and protection of your information when you use our mobile application, available on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

By using Nod, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please do not use our application.

Nod does not request microphone access, and it cannot. The microphone permission is absent from the application entirely — not declared and switched off, but never declared at all. Nod therefore could not record your bedroom even if it were instructed to.

The same is true of location, camera, photo library, contacts and activity recognition: none of these permissions exists in the app. You can see the full permission list on the Privacy screen inside the app, under the “Me” tab.

We do not collect any personal data. Nod has no account system and nothing to sign in to. Your saved mixes, alarms, favourite sounds, listening history and app settings are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to any server.

Every mix you save is written to your device's own storage as a file. There is no copy on our servers, because there are no servers involved. You can export a mix at any time using your device's standard share sheet, back it up wherever you like, and import it again on any phone. Deleting the app deletes your mixes with it; exporting them first is the way to keep them.

Nod's soundscapes are not audio files we ship or stream to you. Each one is synthesised on your device the first time you play it, from a small mathematical recipe contained in the app. Nothing about which sounds you play is sent anywhere, and the app works with no network connection at all.

Nod displays advertisements supplied by Google AdMob on a small number of daytime screens. To serve these, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may access your device's advertising identifier and standard device information. This is handled by Google under its own privacy policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy. Nod itself does not receive, store or transmit any personal information about you. No advertisement is ever shown while a sound is playing, during your night hours, or between an alarm firing and you turning it off.

So that the app can tell you honestly whether your alarm rang when it said it would, Nod records the scheduled time and the actual fire time of each alarm on your device. These are times only — never audio, never content, never location — and they are used solely to produce the report you see on the morning screen. They remain on your device.

Nod uses your device's notification system to deliver alarms. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device; no push service and no remote server is involved. You can revoke notification permission at any time in your device settings, though the alarm cannot reach you if you do.

Since we do not collect any user data, we retain no personal information on external servers. All application data is stored locally on your device and can be deleted at any time by removing individual mixes and alarms, or by uninstalling the application.

Our application is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13 ("Children"). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.

Nod plays sounds and rings alarms. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, it does not measure or track your sleep, and it makes no medical claims. If you have concerns about your sleep, please speak to a qualified healthcare professional.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
